Sylvain Garcia, as Le K is known off the platters, has only put out a limited amount of singles, but already his distinct sound is turning heads across the house and techno landscape. Packing a barrelload of twisted ideas, tongue-in-cheek humour and oodles of funk, the Le K style is akin to being trapped in a sequencer with Parliament, Hendrix and 808 State while being tickled mercilessly. In other words he’s bloody good fun to listen to.

His first experiences with music came at an early age when he picked up a guitar, inspired by the outlandish sonic behaviour of the likes of Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd. Once he made the leap to a synthesizer, he and a friend created the ‘Caribousex’ project – a heady brew of “Electrotechnofolk”, but it wasn’t until he flew solo in 2004 that things started to come together for him.

As first breaks go, getting on to the Force INC ‘4 Robots’ EP was an impressive one, sharing the wax with esteemed wonkmongers including Paradroid and Nice. He followed this achievement up with the blinding ‘Hurluberlu’ EP for Circus Company, one of Delete’s favourite labels, and one of the best things the imprint has ever put out. Just check the brilliant insanity of ‘Elefonk’ with it’s carefully placed old skool rave stabs and rabble rousing rhythm.

Since then he has put out an EP for Feinwerk, the ‘OK Daddy’ EP, and hold tight for the ‘Freaky Fry’ EP on the excellent Floppy Funk, dropping this month. Swaggering into view with a wealth of originality and party-starting ammunition, the sharp ascent of Le K is going to be a crazy ride to keep up with, but ultimately a rewarding one.

His live set only confirms all this, with as much physical energy thrown into his laptop as aural energy being expelled from the speakers. It’s rare to see someone have this much fun with a computer. His gig in Bristol will be only the second time he has played in the UK, the last time being the August Delete down in Bournemouth, so come down to get onto one of the most exciting forces in 4/4 madness.
